>Art performance to celebrate CPC centenary
An art performance was held in Beijing on Monday evening in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China.
Party and state leaders joined about 20,000 people to watch the performance, The Great Journey, at the National Stadium.
With fireworks rocketing into the sky, displaying the number 100 over the stadium, the performance raised the curtain.
The epic show, divided into four parts, depicted how the Chinese people, under the leadership of the CPC, have carried out revolution, construction and reform over the past 100 years. It extolled the fact that under the strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core since the 18th CPC National Congress, socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered a new era, and China is embarking on a new journey of fully building a modern socialist country.
After the performance, everyone in the audience rose to sing the chorus of the song "Without the Communist Party, There Would Be No New China."
>China to replenish pork reserves
China's top economic planner said Monday it plans to purchase pork to replenish the reserves at both the central and local levels, as an index monitoring pork prices has dropped below a warning level. The index, the national average of pork prices against grain prices, came in at 4.9 to 1 from June 21 to June 25, falling below the warning level of 5 to 1, said the National Development and Reform Commission.
The authorities released a work plan in early June to improve the mechanism for adjusting pork reserves to stabilize the market, detailing multiple measures to avoid drastic price changes in the pork market.
Since 2021, hog prices have trended down for several consecutive months.
Data from the National Bureau of Statistics showed that prices went down 11.2 percent in early June compared with late May.
>Guam offer visitors COVID-19 vaccination
The US Pacific territory of Guam will offer visitors COVID-19 vaccination with their tropical holiday, in a bid to restart its struggling tourism industry.
The program is primarily aimed at US expatriates in the Asia-Pacific region, although other nationalities can participate.
"This program captures a unique demographic of travelers around the world that are tired of waiting to get vaccinated in this pandemic," said Visitors Bureau President Carl Gutierrez.
Guam's Governor Lou Leon Guerrero signed off on the initiative last week, and is expected to relax quarantine rules early next month so it can proceed.
Participants in the program can choose among the Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson vaccines.
Mr Gutierrez said up to 30,000 people were forecast to take advantage of the plan by the end of the year.
Tourism is Guam's second-largest economic driver, but a University of Guam study estimated that arrivals slumped 76 percent last year compared with 2019.
>Fresh pizza vending machine
Rome has a new vending machine that slides out freshly cooked pizzas in just three minutes.
Buyers using the flaming red Mr. Go Pizza machine can choose from four different kinds of pizzas costing from 4.50 to 6 euros.
这台名为"Mr. Go Pizza"的红色自动贩卖机上有四种不同的披萨饼可供食客选择，售价从约35元到46元不等。
The machine kneads and tops the dough and customers can watch the pizza cook behind a small glass window.
Reviews by customers of the machine, one of the first in Rome, ranged from "acceptable if you're in a hurry" to outright horror.
People have been eating forms of flat bread with toppings for millennia, but it is generally accepted that pizza was perfected in Naples.
In fact, for many Italians, the classic pizza experience includes watching a "pizzaiolo," (pizzamaker) knead the dough and cooking it in a wood-burning brick oven within sight of your table.
